Medicare Coverage for Hospitals in Uintah County — 2026

Uintah County residents have two primary hospital options, each serving different areas of the Basin. Understanding Medicare coverage at these facilities helps you choose the right plan and avoid surprise bills.

Ashley Regional Medical Center — Vernal

The main hospital for Vernal and eastern Uintah County. Ashley Regional accepts Original Medicare and is included in most Medicare Advantage plan networks. Services include emergency care, surgery, imaging, lab, rehabilitation, and specialty clinics. See our detailed Ashley Regional Medicare guide.

Uintah Basin Medical Center — Roosevelt

The primary hospital for Roosevelt and western Duchesne County. Accepts Original Medicare and is included in many Advantage plan networks. Offers emergency services, inpatient care, obstetrics, surgery, and outpatient clinics. See our Uintah Basin Medical Center guide.

When You Need Care Outside the Basin

For specialized procedures, cancer treatment, or complex surgeries, Uintah Basin residents often travel to University of Utah Health, Intermountain Health, or other facilities in Salt Lake City or Provo. With Original Medicare and Medigap, these facilities are covered at the same rates as local care. With Medicare Advantage, coverage depends on your plan's network — PPO plans provide more flexibility for out-of-area care than HMO plans.

Emergency Care Is Always Covered

Federal law requires all Medicare plans to cover genuine emergency care at any hospital, regardless of network status, at in-network rates. If you experience a medical emergency in Uintah County, go to the nearest emergency room without worrying about network restrictions.

Verify Before You Go

For non-emergency care, always verify your plan covers the specific hospital and provider. Network participation can change annually. We verify coverage at all Uintah Basin facilities as part of our free plan comparison service.
