These are the 2026 IRMAA brackets. Social Security uses your 2024 MAGI to place you in a tier; the standard Part B premium is $202.90, and each higher tier adds a Part B and Part D surcharge on top.

These are the official 2026 Medicare IRMAA brackets. Social Security places you in a tier using your MAGI from 2024, then adds the surcharges below to the standard Part B premium of $202.90. Part D IRMAA is billed separately, on top of your drug plan's premium.

MAGI — Single MAGI — Married filing jointly Part B premium Part B surcharge Part D surcharge
≤ $109,000 ≤ $218,000 $202.90
$109,001 – $137,000 $218,001 – $274,000 $284.10 $81.20 $14.50
$137,001 – $171,000 $274,001 – $342,000 $405.80 $202.90 $37.50
$171,001 – $205,000 $342,001 – $410,000 $527.50 $324.60 $60.40
$205,001 – $500,000 $410,001 – $750,000 $649.20 $446.30 $83.30
Above $500,000 Above $750,000 $689.90 $487.00 $91.00

Part D surcharge is added to whatever your Part D plan charges. Married-filing-separately uses different, lower thresholds.

How to Read This

Find the row matching your 2024 income and filing status. The Part B premium column is your total monthly Part B cost; the surcharge columns show how much of that is IRMAA. Only your income determines the tier — the surcharge amounts are the same for single and married filers within a tier.

Near a Threshold?

Crossing a bracket by even a dollar bumps you to the next tier for the whole year, so income near a line is worth planning. Estimate your surcharge, and if a life-changing event lowered your income, you may be able to appeal with Form SSA-44. We're glad to walk through it with you, free.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard Part B premium in 2026?
$202.90 per month. You pay only that if your 2024 MAGI was $109,000 or less (single) or $218,000 or less (married filing jointly).
Do these brackets change every year?
Yes. Both the income thresholds and the surcharge amounts are set annually by Medicare, so check the current year before you plan. This table reflects the official figures.
What if I file taxes as married filing separately?
Married-filing-separately has its own, much lower thresholds and can trigger IRMAA at a far smaller income. If that’s you, talk to us or Social Security about your specific situation.
